<br/><br/> This paper, which seeks to identify factors contributing to the rate and character of technical transfer and to assess host-country research and development effort in response to foreign competition, is one of three examining the impact of technically-advanced companies, particularly American, on British industries. Beginning first with an analysis of imitation cycles in pharmaceuticals and making use of a model of these, the study proceeds to examine the transnational operations of American and other foreign companies, showing the connection between company size, sales and new product introductions.
